Romantic Road in Germany will give you everything that you associate with its name. It has a fair bit of history, some beautiful landscapes, breathtaking cities, hotels and castles. In short, a trip via the Romantic Road is the experience of a lifetime.
The Romantic Road has a long history. It is based on a Roman road that used to be a busy trade route in the Middle Ages. The romantic route is developed later after the second World War. However, the charm of the middle age has been left unadulterated. You will still find the Medieval towns, walled cities, towers, and everything. Along with that, there is some serene landscapes, lush parks and cozy restaurants that make this trip one of the major tourist attractions in Germany.
The landscapes along the Romantic Road are simply stunning. The magnificent Bavarian Alps range runs along the route. En route, you will come across many a hills, vineyards, and lakes. The entire Pfaffenwinkel region along with its pristine Pilgrimage Church Wieskirche will bewitch anybody. This church is also one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites.
History will be your most constant companion during your trip through Romantic Road. You will see numerous Medieval towns and castles in your journey. Among the lot, the Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the best by far. This is the best preserved Medieval town fortified city center, medieval wall, and magnificent Town Hall.
Dinkelsbuhl is another city where you can find out numerous medieval towers and authentic city gates. The illuminated city center of the town offers a gorgeous view at night. You can visit the town with the night watchman patrolling it.
On your way down the Romantic Road, you will find Augsburg, one of the oldest cities of Germany. The town has a history of more than 2000 years the legacy of which is beautifully preserved in the city center. You will find some beautiful boulevards, baroque houses, and traditional restaurants. Other historical towns on romantic road include Creglingen. Most of the tourists stop by this city to visit the famous Alter of Mary.
On the two extremes of the Romantic Road, there are two cities – Wurzburg and Fussen. Wurzburg has the famous Residence Palace which is in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. In Fussen, you will see Neuschwanstein castle that will remind you of the fairy tales.
