Abu Simbel- World Heritage Site
Abu Simbel is a small town lying south of Aswan in Egypt. It has a number of simple offices and eateries of little interest to tourists. However the temples of Abu Simbel are quite breathtaking. These are the most magnificent monuments in the world. There removal and reconstruction was an historic event in itself which fascinates the tourists. These temples of Abu Simbel were formerly located further down in hill side, facing the Nile but due to the rising water of Lake Nasser, the original locations are under water. Later on numbers of stone cubes were moved uphill and reassembled before the water rose.
Winter is the best time to visit Abu Simbel because it has an extreme climate. The most suitable time to plan your trip to Abu Simbel will be between October and February. Being a small historic site of Egypt, Abu Simbel has a good communication system. You can Visit Abu Simbel by plane or if your budget is tight you can get there by bus or by a car.
Egypt air offers you daily flight to Abu Simbel both from Cairo and Aswan. A five star cruise is also available to you to enjoy your journey of Abu Simbel. The restaurant and of course the bar is a perfect place to relax and make your journey a memorable one. This is probably the best way to visit this area. You can enjoy Nubian dancers and great spectacular show of dance and music in the cruise.
Apart from all these Abu Simbel is also famous for its light and music show. Travelling three hour from Aswan you will reach the site and be a part of the exotic experience.
You can enjoy the famous Sun festival of Abu Simbel in the month of February and October. This festival is observed twice in a year to mark the birthday of their emperor. The temple remains in darkness throughout the year and receives sunlight on these two very special days.
On these days sunlight enters the temple and illuminates the statues. You should be lucky enough to be a part of Egypt’s sun festival and watch the spectacular event occur before your eyes. You can join the celebration of dance, music, food and fun and have a wholesome experience.
