Adelaide Zoo houses over 1800 animals from over 30 species of birds, reptiles and fish. This is the second oldest zoo in the country and definitely an important landmark in South Australia. The major exhibits of the zoo include South East Asian Rainforest, Seal Bay,
Australian Rainforest Wetlands walk – through aviary, Nocturnal House, Reptile House at al. Adelaide Zoo is a major metropolitan zoo in the country.
There is a family ticket available in the park which includes the price of 2 adults and 2 children. The ticket is priced at 74$. Individual tickets for adults are priced at 28.50$.You can even purchase the tickets online and choose your own viewing time for the Giant Panda.
The park is open everyday from 9:30 in the morning to 5:00 in the evening. The zoo shop is open from more or less the same time. In this park you can even feed the zoo animals! The animals in the Children’s zoo can be fed with the animal food available with the zoo keeper. You cannot feed the animals in any other area.
a) Wild Nights – It is an exciting program at the Adelaide Zoo where you get to sleep in the tents and you need to bring your own pillows and sleeping bags. The tour starts at 6:30 in the evening and finishes at 9:00 in the morning next day. The tour includes an Animal Encounter, an evening meal, night walks and a unique camping experience. The price for a 2 person tent is 350$.
b) Walkabout Tours – the free walking tours at the Adelaide Zoo takes place throughout the day. It starts from various locations at every half – hour.
c) Lion Encounter – you can come close to the lions and even help the keepers to feed the lions their lunch. The tour is approximately of 15 min duration and is available on four days of the week at 2:00 in the afternoon. The cost is 30$ per person and the minimum age should be 8 years.
The buses will stop on Frome road which is just outside the zoo. Look for Bus no. 271 and 271 from Currie Street.
