When you go there, make sure that you have enough time at hand to spend there, because there are just so many shops to enjoy. You will love the variety in the brands, and the best part is the wonderful mansions and the townhouses over there, that have beautiful architectural work and interiors. All these are from the Neo-renaissance period, and are quite fascinating to look at.
The avenue, which stretches from the Elizabeth square to the City Park began being constructed in the year 1872, and was finally inaugurated on 20 August, 1876, which is now considered to be a national holiday.
Some of the finest architects of that time are credited for the buildings at the avenue, and for giving it the magnificent shape and form that we see it in today.
A lot of aristocrats, historical families, and many other known people of the city that time were involved in the process of building this avenue. In 1885, it was named after the then Prime Minister Gyula Andrassy.
At the avenue, you can also visit the Hungarian State Opera House, and the House of Terror. There is also the College of Fine Arts, and the Academy of Music to visit. Make sure that you visit the square around the Academy of Music that has a lot of wonderful cafes over there.
The Oktogon part of Andrassy is where most of the commercial activities are carried out, and it has a very urban feel to it. Other areas such as the Kodály körönd and Bajza utca are residential areas, which also have universities and small gardens.
Even if you do not want to go to the street mainly for shopping, you should still go there for enjoying the great city feel.
