The blue water of the Ionian Sea, the hilly regions and verdant grooves make these islands simply splendid. Each island has got distinct tradition, life-style and cuisine. During the travel one can easily discover beautiful cove for lovers or nice place to take rest in the olive groove. A trip to Ionian Islands is really exciting and extraordinary.
Attractions: There are several places to visit in all the islands of the Ionian Islands. Corfu is considered to be the second largest island of the Ionian Islands. Homer also described it as the ‘beautiful and rich land’.
According to mythology Greek hero Odysseus stopped here before returning back to Ithaki. With the beautiful olive grooves, cypress trees, wildflowers and many other trees Corfu has become one of the beautiful islands of Greece. Ithaka is another island of the Ionian Islands. Ithaki or Ithaka is said to be the mythical hero Odysseus’s home land.
This is the place where Odysseus’s wife Penelope waited for him for decades. There are small fishing villages and beautiful coves. There are some remains of the mythical times in this very island. Kefallonia is another island in this chain. This is the largest of all the islands in Ionian Islands. This island has got rugged and towering mountain range. The beauty of the hills has been accentuated by the deep blue water of the Ionian Sea.
Stunning white sandy beaches, vineyards, fascinating cliffs- all simply call one for an exciting adventure. There are some Roman remains in this island. Those who are adventurous souls can explore the island by walking. One of the main attractions is the local cuisine. is another large island of the Ionian Islands. Earlier it was joined to the main land but later the Corinthians dug a canal and seperated it from the mainland.
The beautiful cliffs, olive grooves, the fir and pine forests have made Lefkada a beautiful place. The east coast of the island is highly developed and quite populated but the west coast is less populated. At the west coast one can enjoy at the stunning beaches.
