Guanajuato: This excellent city is famous as the UNESCO world heritage site. This city was founded in the year 1559. It was said to be believed to be built due to the great silver and gold deposits. Both the colonial riches of the ancient times and the modern opulence have made this town a great place for the tourists of the whole world.
Attractions: This city is internationally acclaimed because of the international arts festival. Alhondiga de Granaditas is the site of the first rebel victory of Mexico’s war of independence. It was actually a grain and seed storev house and it turned into a fortress in the hands of the Spanish. Today it has been turned into a museum and the tourists can have guided tour in the museum. Cristo Rey is the great bronze statue of 20m height of Jesus Christ.
It was erected on the top of the Cerro de Cubilete. This very place is considered to be the heart or centre of the city. One can have guided tour to visit this very marvellous statue or you can hire cab to visit the place. The citizens of this country think it to be very auspicious to have the Christ statue at the heart of the country.
Galeria Mariana is the centre of the relics of other gods and goddesses.Monumento la Pipila is the monument in the honour of the hero who helped and sacrificed for the independence of the country.
Jardin de la Union is the social centre of the city and the place is shaded by verdant green trees and there are several cafes and restaurants. One can easily pass his or her whole day coming to this place. Museo del Pueblo de Guanajuato is a great museum where various Mexican miniatures, paintings of the Mexican painters and different artefacts have been displayed for the visitors.
Many of the paintings and artefacts are of 18th and 19th century. Apart from this there are other museums also. Museo Iconografico del Quijote and Museo Y Casa de Diego Rivera are two famous museums which one should not miss. A trip to this place is really exciting.
