Guide To Mountaineering
Travel Guide 0 Comments
Mountain climbing or mountaineering is an adventurous sport that many outdoor lovers indulge in regularly. However, love of nature alone does not qualify as a skill for mountaineering. If you’re afraid of heights or tend to get dizzy easily at the sight of danger, try to find another less risky adventure sport. While mountaineering is not entirely risk-free, with proper planning and preparation, you can fulfill your desire without any harm. Besides, the risk is what increases the fun, and the dangers involved in scaling particularly difficult peaks are challenges that thrill mountaineers. Once you reach the summit, the magnificent panorama takes your breath away, putting all thoughts of problems out of your mind.
Regardless of the ecstasy induced by this sport, it is not a light hobby to be enjoyed carelessly. Mountaineering requires discipline, exercise, preparation, and common sense. Following is a short guide for those who are interested in mountain climbing.
Research
Read books about mountaineering for beginners; these will give you a comprehensive view of the various aspects involved in this activity. If you haven’t changed your mind after that, find out about the monetary aspects – renting or buying equipment, clothes and supplies that will accompany you on the climb.
Inquire about clubs or groups along with whom you can train for climbing a mountain. It is best not to attempt a peak alone as the challenges involved may require the efforts of more than one person to overcome.
Plan
Once you’re well informed about mountaineering, start planning for your first climb. Select a relatively easy one at first. You’ll need to find out about weather conditions – whether they’ll be suitable for climbing or not. You may also need a permit to scale certain mountains. Ensure that you have a group of professional climbers for assistance.
Prepare
Start taking lessons in mountaineering. You’ll need to learn skills like rappelling and belaying among others in order to climb any mountain successfully. Practice beforehand by trekking, and climbing small hills.
Exercise and get your body in shape. Eat healthy in order to build stamina for the big climb. If you feel unfit or inadequate for the task, it would be better to back out at the earliest than change your mind halfway up the mountain.
Sleep well before the day of adventure and start early for your ascent up the mountain.
