Hong Kong Ocean Park
Trip Ideas Comments OffOcean Park is Hong Kong’s most favorite attraction with a world full of rides and exhibits. It covers a whopping 870,000 sq m of land and is located in the southern part of Hong Kong. The Ocean Park has three main attraction areas and they are named as – the Lowland, the Headland and Tai Shue Wan. These three areas are well connected between them by the world’s second longest outdoor escalator. You can also opt for the cable car or Ocean Express to move between these areas.
Amazing Asian Animals
This exhibit showcases the rare animals of Asia. This is an interactive exhibit where you will come face to face with a lot of endangered but lovable species.
Giant Panda Adventure
The red pandas are the latest entrants to this exhibit and they are already a ‘star’ in their own right. The children love them as they are very cuddly and very adorable in nature. Also meet the Giant Pandas, Ying Ying and Le Le in the Giant Panda enclosure. The Chinese Giant Salamander can also be found here; it is an endangered species and well protected by Ocean Park.
Gartor Marsh
Spend some time with alligators – the most fascinating creatures. You can view the endangered Chinese alligator that are also known as ‘earth dragons’. You can learn a lot about their habits and the why they are threatened with extinction.
Goldfish Treasures
This one is surely for the kids. There are hundreds of goldfishes in vibrant colors and the varieties include Black & White Water Color Moor, Blue Phoenix Eggfish and Marble Fantail. There are lots of things to be learnt in this exhibit including the importance of goldfish in Chinese culture.
Cable Car Plaza
This is the best mode of transport if you want to travel between Waterfront and Summit. When you are riding the cable car you will get some splendid views of the seas and the entire park. Don’t forget to take your cameras and go clicking!
Ocean Express Waterfront Station
The fun way to travel between the Waterfront and the Summit is definitely the Ocean Express. This is a funicular train that takes just 4 min to shuttle people between the two points. This is an incredible adventure as the train wheezes through a tunnel that is 1.3 km in length. This will be a memorable experience and you will only curse yourself if you miss this.
Chinese Sturgeon Aquarium
This exhibit showcases how the precious fish of Hong Kong has inspired Chinese culture. You can witness a living fossil, the Sturgeon (endangered) and other precious and wonderful fishes of Yangtze.
Ocean Theater
Sea Dreams is the brand new show in Ocean Theater. It is a wonderful show with soothing music and some real stunning performances by the performers. The show tells us how humans and animals can live harmoniously together.
Pacific Pier
If you are fond of the seals and the sea lions then you can visit the Pacific Pier. You will love the sea lions as they play in the waters and take a sunbath too! You can go under the water and view these magnificent creatures swimming happily in the water and frolicking against the simulated waves.
Sea Jelly Spectacular
Have you ever seen a garden of fluorescent sea jellies? In the Ocean Park you can find 1000 sea jellies of all shapes and sizes. The exhibit has been designed with the latest light technology which makes the sea jellies look spectacular.
Ocean Park Tower
How will you feel when you are in the air, 72m from the ground? This is Ocean Tower which is actually a viewing room that rotates slowly to give you a 360 degree view of the sun and seas. The view of the South China Sea from the tower is simply superb. This is one of the tallest observation tower in this part of the world.
Dining
When you are at Ocean Park, you are never far away from a dining place or from a shop where you can buy things to your heart’s content. The Middle Kingdom Restaurant is located near Tai Shue Wan and this is a perfect place for a hearty Cantonese meal. You can go for set dinners or just order a la carte.
The Panda Café is in Amazing Asian Animals and is a good place to recharge after the long walks. You can get dishes from Taiwan and Japan. The Café Ocean is a new restaurant that is located in Headland Rides. The menu has a lot of local favorites and a good place to hang out. If you are a big fan of al fresco dining, the head towards the Terrace Café where you get all the refreshing drinks.
Shopping
Pacific Chandeliers in Marine Land is a huge hit among kids as you get the largest range of plush toys – sea lions and seals. You can buy a couple of these toys as memorabilia of your trip to Ocean Park. The Ocean Theater Souvenir Express has themed gifts and you can easily find many sea creatures here to adorn your table back home. For dolphins and penguins, there is no better place to go than Ocean Paradise. The Panda Kingdom Shop is a fairly large one with over 5000 animal-themed toys that will capture your imagination right away.
Getting There
Plenty of public transport is available for going to Ocean Park. You need to get off after the Aberdeen Tunnel and from there it is just a short walk to the park. Bus # 973 from Tsim Sha Tsui and Bus # 6A, 6X and 70 from Central are the popular choices.
The Citybus Route 629 is a daily service that runs from Admiralty MTR and straight to Ocean Park. Adults are charged $10.6 per trip.
General Admission
The general admission tickets are priced at $250 per adult and you can buy the tickets from the main entrance, the Citybus Route 629 terminal, Admiralty MTR and even online.

The Hong Kong Ocean Park strives hard to make your trip to park as enjoyable as ever. The main facilities include restaurants, food kiosks, telephones, baby changing stations, nursery rooms and washrooms.
