Kefalonia is the largest Ionian island in Greece. A host of beautiful beaches, lush mountains, and the spectacular landscape have always made the place a darling for the vacationers.

Couple with them the sprawling vineyards of the place and the allure of traditional cuisine and locally-made wine and you will sure be itching to book your ticket to Greece for your next vacation.

As has been told, Kefalonia is a large island and there are a number of villages you can stay while in Kefalonia. Among them, the ones that have found most favors with the tourists for their scenic locales and adequate tourist infrastructure are Assos, Poros, Lixouri, Sami, Argostoli, and Fiskardo.

Apart from enjoying the scenic beauty of the place, you can also familiarise yourself with traditional Greek way of living that are still being followed in a few of these villages.

However, the main attraction of Kefalonia is its beaches. Myrtos is the most famous and frequented beach of this island. It is famous for its golden sands where you can lie for hours on your back under a gentle Greecian sun. The beach is surrounded by steep cliff-like mountain ranges which add to the beauty of the place.

There are also many bars and seafood restaurants along the bay of Myrtos from where you can enjoy the beauty of the waters from a distance, while sipping at your tequila or trying out a traditional Greek dish.

Ones visiting with their families and will like to see their kids to wallow in the sea waters will better move to the beaches around Argostoli, the capital town of Kefalonia. Gialos, Makris and Platis are among the famous beaches here.

One will find a number of good resorts around these beaches and many other tourist facilities, too. And because the waters are shallow in this part of the island, it is also ideal for visits with kids as you will not have to worry about their safety.

On the northern side of the island falls Antisamos, another lovely beach in Kefalonia. Because this beach resides at a distance from the central part of the island, not many tourists frequent this beach.

The beach has thus over the years become a popular spot for couples, who understandably want some privacy and want to be at a distance from the bustle.
