Kingston: Colonial City with Different Colours

Kingston: Known as ‘Limestone city’, Kingston is another colonial jewel of Canada. The city has really kept the old age charm with all those ancient structures. The massive mansions of the then era really have changed the air of the town.

A trip to this city will lead you back to the days of the colonial era. Queen’s University adds another charm to this very colourful city.

Attractions: Bellevue House is one of the grand mansions of this city. This was once the house of Sir John A Macdonald who was Canada’s first prime minister. The architectural design of this very mansion is really mazy and it is full of vibrant colours. But the adjoining gardens and the great collections of the antiques really charm people.

Fort Henry National Historic Site is one of the great places which is perched on the hill top. Coming here you can have a guided tour through out the fort and the displays of the soldiers really awe-inspiring. Nearby you can also visit the Murney Tower Museum. This very museum also houses different things of the military service. Do not miss the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes that offers the visitors the detailed history of the ship building and the history of the old shipyard.

Another great architectural attraction is the great City Hall. It is considered to be a kind of relic from the very time when Kingston was the capital of the United Provinces of Canada.

Coming here one can see great collection of stained glass, valuable portraits, ancient things and many other different things of old age. You can also avail free tours in the hall. To know the prison system of those days one has to visit the Penitentiary Museum of this city. You can a great collection of tools and weapons here. Fort Fredrick Mertello Tower is the city’s largest historic tower. The Royal Military College Museum is inside this historic tower.

How to go: You can reach Kingston by bus. There are regular bus services from Toronto, Montreal, Cornwall. You can also hire a car to reach the city. There is train service upto Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa.
