Kuala Lumpur has a vibrant nightlife and you will never have a dull moment here. The city has a healthy mix of different cultures. Though Malaysia is predominantly an Islamic nation, you can get alcohol freely in the capital city and you will really love the wonderful night scene in Kuala Lumpur.
There is a strict government rule which forces the bar to close y 0100 hrs but this is hardly a dampener. The legal age for drinking in Kuala Lumpur is 21 years.
Traditionally night life in Kuala Lumpur actually means a visit to the night market and shop to your heart’s content. You get to socialize with many people, have good food from the hawkers and gulp down some good quality ice cold beer.
Jalan Rja Muda has a Saturday market which is very popular among tourists and Chinatown is a local favorite. Most of the bars are located in the Golden Triangle area which in itself is famous for European style bars, night clubs and luxury hotels.
Earlier Jalan Bukit Bintang was a favorite place for night outs among tourists but now the focus has shifted to Jalan Sultan Ismail – Jalan P Ramlee area. The usual dress code is smart casual but there are some establishments which are frequented by young and yuppie generation.
On the border of the city there is a place called Bangsar is slowly becoming very popular among tourists and foreigners alike and there are a good number of bars and eating joints which are all quite popular with the young crowd. As discussed earlier, there are a number of bars in KL which are good. Those which deserve special mention are –
Bars
1) El Nino – Latin American music and culture rules here in this bar in the Golden Triangle.
2) Citrus Rouge – Live Jazz, a dance floor, cocktails, cigars and stylish restaurant – you name it, they have it all. No wonder, the bar is one of the most popular in KL.
Clubs
1) Emporium – this is probably the best place in town for a good evening. The club is situated in Golden Triangle and it has hosted a number of national and international level guest DJs’.
