Louvre Museum: Greatest Attraction Of Paris

Musee du Louvre or the Louvre Museum is situated in Paris, the capital of France. Louvre Museum is considered as one of the largest museums in the world.
Apart from that this very museum is also considered as one of the most visited art museums of the world. Each year thousands of tourists, art lovers and artists come over to Paris to visit this awesome museum. This fascinating museum is housed in the grand Louvre Palace. In the year 1793 this very museum was opened to the public with a nice exhibition of 537 paintings. With the advancement of time the collection of the museum increased. The grand Louvre Museum is now divided in eight curatorial departments.
Louvre Museum: At the entrance of Louvre Museum one can see fascinating glass pyramid made by architect I. M. Pei. The glass pyramid and its underground lobby were opened in 1988. In 1993 La Pyramide Inversee or the ‘Inverted Pyramid’ was completed. At least 15,000 visitors per day visit this awesome museum. This museum contains 380,000 objects and there are at least 35,000 works of art in the various departments. At the department of Egyptian antiquities there are at least 50,000 pieces.
There are several sculptures, art objects, papyrus scrolls, mummies, jewellery, clothes and musical instruments to see. At the department Near Eastern antiquities has got nice collection of early near Eastern Civilisation and settlements before the arrival of Islam.
Here one can see works of Babylon and Persia. At the Greek, Etruscan and Roman department one can see awesome marble sculptures like ‘Venus de Milo’ and works of Hellenistic era. Here one can see marvellous Roman portraits of Agrippa and Annius Verus. Department of Sculpture remains generally crowded with art lovers and artists. Here one can see great works like Michelangelo’s ‘Dying Slave’ and ‘Rebellious Slave‘.
But the section that is really loved by all the artists, art-lovers and tourists is the department of painting. There are at least 6000 works in this department. Here one can see Leonardo da Vinci’s famous enigmatic painting ‘Mona Lisa‘, ‘Virgin and the child with St Anne’, ‘Madonna of the rocks’ and ‘St John the Baptist’. Rembrandt’s ‘The Supper at Emmanus’ is another great painting to see here. The department of Decorative arts and department of Prints and drawings are also fantastic areas of Louvre.
