Republic of Chad counted among the oldest place on globe and also called ‘Dead Heart of Africa’ is a landlocked central African state bordered by Niger, Nigeria, Cameroun, the Central African Republic, the Sudan and Libya.

More than 130 different nationalities and tribes reside here. Some of them are Bagirmi, Sara, Bongo, Tibbu Hausa, Fulani, and Arabs, etc.

Religion practiced is mainly Animist, an Islamic minority. The population is about 10 million. It was a French colony until 1960 when it became independent. Official language is however French and Arabic. Civilization existed here even in 2000BC.

The highest elevation in the north is Emi Koussi in the Tibesti. It is a conglomerate of inactive volcanic mountains and hot springs. In the vicinity are ancient caves. The cave wall paintings are prehistoric in origin. Lake Chad is the biggest lake here and the nation is named after this lake.

N’Djamena is the capital city. It is located on 949 km long river Chari and is the vital port for the nation. The great mosque and a French constructed cathedral is an important tourist attraction here. Sao ruins are also worth a visit. Abeche, Koumra, kelo, and Moundou are some of the bigger cities of the nation.

The climate is hot and wet tropical in the south; hot and dry desert in the north, marked by great differences between diurnal and nocturnal temperatures.

Zakouma National Park is a big attraction here. A boat ride takes the visitors to their destination. Even though some species are extinct, still there are 44 types of animals and 25 aviary species in the region. Sightseeing is done through safari ride. There is provision for stay here and many tourists avail this facility.

Visit Ennedi to appreciate and relish the desert. Gaoui lies in the proximity of the capital city and many tourists visit the place to acquaint themselves with the culture and habits of the natives. Sarh is located on the bank of river Chari. It is a good picnic spot in nature. Other things of appeal are the slot canyons, rocks in different shapes, desert, lakes, and old arches floating on sand dunes in Lake Chad

The country is not rich, but is in fact counted among the poor nations. The border conflict is sporadic, but continuous. The weather is not very comfortable, but it has its charm of nature wildlife and antiquity. Tourism is a developing industry here.
