Plan a Visit to Aberdare National Park

One of the most famous National Parks in Africa is the Aberdare National Park. This Park with its magnificent view of the Aberdare mountain range and comprising of the vast wilderness of the undulating mountainous topography with clear mountains and misty glades along with several waterfalls plunging down from dizzy heights and the rich wildlife and biodiversity is a major international tourist attraction.

This national Park covering an area of 767 sq. kms. is situated in the Central highlands to the West of mt. Kenya. At a distance of 180 kms. from Nairobi.

Boasting of a spectacular landscape ranging from high mountainous peaks and the valley area intersected with streams, rivers, and waterfalls on the higher altitudes and lush green rainforests and bamboo forests with a variety of wild lives, this National Park is a paradise for wilderness and nature loving tourists.

This park is famous for the torrential waterfalls plunging steep down from the dizzy heights of the mountainous peak to the gorges and ravines at the lower land. The climate is pleasantly cool all around the year with abundance of rains.

The wildlife variety found here is thrilling and diverse. The Aberdare is famous for the predominance of elephants with more than an estimated 2000 in number.

The other various wildlife species to be easily found are lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, baboons, and the Colobus monkeys. The majestic Cape buffaloes and the black rhinos are found in abundance. This Park also supports more than 250 different bird species too some of which are Goshawks, eagles, sunbirds, plovers, and the endangered species of the rare Aberdare Cisticola.

Accommodation is plenty. There are different types ranging from the famous Treetops lodge at the top of a tree to several private and public campsites. Aberdere country club and The Ark are two other very popular lodges along with Sangare Tented camp.

The Treetops lodge and The Ark offers a spectacular wildlife view at night from where one can watch the lions, rhinos, elephants, leopard’s, etc. coming for the waterholes to drink water.

During the daytime visitors can enjoy trailing the river, hiking the moorlands, and picnic at the camping sites. A visit to the Aberdere National Park, experiencing the picturesque landscape, the wilderness, and watching the variety of wildlife is an unforgettable experience.
