Prospect Park Zoo is spread over 12 acres and is located in Brooklyn. The zoo is actually located off Flatbush Avenue and it offers educational programs for children, restoration of the population of endangered species and a Wildlife Theater that runs a number of volunteer programs.

The zoo has over 600 animals covering more than 140 species.

Hours & Rates

Summer is the best time to visit Prospect Park zoo. You can take a stroll in the shades of the zoo or hop on he Discovery Trail to encounter the kangaroos, wallabies and the red pandas. You can catch a glimpse of the smallest kangaroos, porcupines and the pygmy loris inside the Amazing Nocturnal Animals Exhibit.

Don’t forget to check the schedule of the keeper chats and enjoy the sea lion feedings which are held daily at the pool. The good news is that Prospect Zoo is open throughout the year. During simmer the zoo is open fro 10:00 in the morning to 5:00 in he evening and in the winter the zoo closes 30 min earlier.

Admission

The ticket prices for adults are $8.00 and for children its $5.00 and children under 3 years of age can enjoy free admission.



Directions

The Prospect Park zoo is easily connected from New Jersey. If you are driving then take the tunnels to the Manhattan and continue to drive in the south direction. Use the West Side Highway and take the Brooklyn Bridge exit.

After you cross the bridge, take a left turn onto the Atlantic Avenue and take a right to get to Flatbush Avenue. It’s not over yet. Continue through Grand Army Plaza and Flatbush Avenue to get the entrance on the right side.

What to Do

There are activities galore at Prospect Park Zoo such as

1)    Animal Encounters – You can have a close encounter with one of your favorite animals like the chinchilla or the snake. The animals can be seen in the zoo theater and if you are lucky. You can even touch them.
2)   Sea Lion Feedings – Don’t miss out on meeting the sea lions and their keepers. Stella and Beebe will impress you with their dives and the camaraderie with their keepers. There are also three daily feeding demonstrations.

3)   Discovery Center – The interactive station has many learning stations, microscope lens and you can even come close to live animals.
