Punda Maria rest camp is the most traditional rest camp in the Kruger National Park. It is just 8 km from the Punda Maria entrance gate.

The camp is very close to the Pafuri area where tourist can enjoy the views of unique bird species like Pel’s Fishing Owl and Crested Guinea Fowl.
The rest camp is known for its comfortable accommodation, the hiking trail and the opportunities that it offers for game viewing.

Accommodation
There are two family bungalows that is enough to accommodate six people each. The facilities in the bungalows include en – suite bedroom, lounge and dining area, fully equipped kitchen and a patio on the outside where the guest can even enjoy a barbeque!


The bungalows also offer limited channel digital satellite television. The bedroom also has a loft room with an attached patio from where you can enjoy some wonderful views of the wild.

There are 4 three – bed units that are equipped with a kitchenette. There is a hotplate and a fridge too so that the guests can self – cater. There is a common barbeque area and all the units are equipped with en – suite facilities.

The rest camp also has 18 two – bed bungalows. There is en – suite facilities but no kitchen to prepare your own food. In fact there is no kitchen sink even. However, there is a community kitchen that the guests can use to prepare their food.

There are also as many as fifty campsites and some even having electrical outlets. Most of these campsites have a rotating barbecue grid. The communal kitchen provides boiling water for 24 hours and the bathroom facilities are well maintained and are very adequate.


What to See
There are lots of activities that the tourists can do at the camp to make their enjoyable. There is a restaurant at the camp that provides meals three times a day and a cafeteria which is mainly between meal times. You can sit down and enjoy the food or take away to your accommodation.


The Pafuri area is nearby which is known as a birdwatcher’s paradise. The crested guinea fowl can be seen here. The camp is known for its unique bird life and you should never miss the opportunity to enjoy the sight of rare birds.
