Festivals: One of the most famous festivals of Rajasthan is the ‘desert festival of Jaisalmer‘. The desert festival is a great attraction for the foreign tourists of the other countries. Amidst the yellow sand and sand dunes the great festival takes place. Each year during January and February this festivals is held here. It goes on for at least three days. For the three days of festival Jaisalmer becomes a land of colours.
The veiled beauties wearing dazzling Rajasthani ‘ghagras’ or better say local gaudy attires perform the traditional Rajasthani dances. The mode of the dance and the rhythm of the music force one to sway his body a bit with them. The traditional Rajasthani music, games, foods, jewellery, dresses all are found here. The vivacity and spirit of the people of Jaisalmer inject a new spirit into the visiting tourists here. This grand festival excellently presents the culture and tradition of Jaisalmer and Rajasthan.
The camels dressed with colourful junk jewellery are another great attraction of the festival. One can easily enjoy a ride on the back of a camel among the golden sand dunes of Jaisalmer. Another famous festival of Rajasthan is the Pushkar Fair. Pushkar Lake and the nearby temples of Brahma, Varaha and Aptaeswer are the main attractions of the place. But Pushkar Fair is another great attraction of the state of Rajasthan. This gala festival goes on for at least 7 days. The great Pushkar Fair is considered as one of the major camel fairs of India. The fair ground of Pushkar fair is a palette of vibrant and lively colours.
There are innumerable make-shift stalls display gaudy dresses, traditional Rajasthani silver jwellery, embroidered shawls, bags, fantastic woven blankets, show pieces of Rajasthan, local shoes which are called ‘nagras’, crafts, foods and many other things. The fair ground is covered with big and small umbrellas that are embroidered with different colourful pieces of clothes. One can take short rest under an umbrella while sipping delicious ‘lassi’ or butter-milk. One should not miss to taste the local food ‘dal-bati-churma’. The folk songs of the poets and singers of the Rajasthan and dances performed with the local Gujjar folklores are great attractions of the fair.
