Taj Mahal: The Taj Mahal is actually a Mughal mausoleum. Considered as the most exquisite and beautiful monument built for love on this earth, the Taj Mahal has got a different charm of its own. The Taj Mahal of Agra is generally ranked as the most visited place of India. The great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built this marble monument for his second wife Mumtaz Mahal while she died during giving birth to a child. The Emperor was totally crestfallen after the death of his beloved wife. Then he planned to build this awesome monument to keep his love for his wife immortal. The Taj Mahal was started in 1631 and ultimately it was completed in 1650s.

When it was ultimately finished Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb in Agra Fort. It is said the heart broken emperor used to gaze from a tiny window of the fort at the distant Taj Mahal. After his death he was buried alongside his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is said that at least 20,000 workers were employed during the making of the Taj Mahal. This fascinating marble monument stands on the bank of Yamuna River. This beautiful monument was called as the World Heritage site in the year 1983.

Though environmental pollution has created much damage to this marble monument but Taj Mahal still is standing with its dazzling glory. Particularly the acid rain has caused great damage to the famous white marbles the monuments. But now the authorities are trying their best to save this eternal creation of love. The South Gate of the Taj Mahal is considered as the easiest way to reach Taj Ganj.

From here a 30m red sandstone path leads one to the main area. The first view of the Taj Mahal makes one spellbound. The white marble monument standing on a raised marble platform makes one speechless.
