Where is Tasmania located on the globe? This is the question most people would ask me when I worked in a travel agency. It is soon becoming one of the most popular destinations for tourism thanks to its natural scenic beauty and invigorating climate.

Tasmania is located at the southernmost tip of Australia. Tasmania is the only island state of Australia.Its scenic beauty is attributed to its lush green valleys, divine beaches, and an endless coastline. All this factors make Tasmania one of the most beautiful places for spending one’s vacation.

The island of Tasmania mostly consists of mountainous terrain.It is one of the few places on the earth where ancient dolorite rocks can be found in the mountainous terrain.What is fascinating about Tasmania is the fact that the climate changes within a distance of 300 km in the island state.

This can be understood through the wide variation in the average rainfall in various parts of Tasmania. While on the east coast the average annual rainfall is less than 20 cm, the west coast receives comparatively high annual average rainfall of 300 cm.Hobart, one of the driest Australian cities, is the capital city of Australia.

Tasmania’s climatic conditions are described through its four distinct seasons—summer, autumn, spring, and winter. Summer is characterized by the warmest months extending from December to March. In summer, the average temperature ranges between 17 °C and 23 °C.The most striking fact about Tasmania is the contrasting rainfall patterns that occur within the island.

On the east coast is located the capital city of Hobart, the second-most driest city in Australia, with an average annual rainfall of only 626 mm.On the other hand, the west coast is a high rainfall region with rain forests as the average annual rainfall is 2400 mm.The most distinct fact of Tasmania is that around 300 islands surround the Tasmanian mainland—a great place to experience diversity of flora and fauna.

What is even more unique of Tasmania is the vast variety in the geographical landscape ranging from rainforests to mountainous terrains and divine, virgin beaches that immaculately add to the beauty of the island state. So, what attracts tourists to Tasmania is its vast geographical and climatic diversity along with exhilarating and breath-taking locales.
