Visit to Liberia
Republic of Liberia is a North Atlantic coastal country of western Africa bordered by Sierra Leone, the Ivory Coast, and Guinea. Liberia derives its name from the world liberty, as it was a colony established by liberated slaves who fled from USA. Here they formed the government on the lines of USA and called the capital James Monroe on the 5th President of USA.
Thus, natives are indigenous African tribes, which make up some 98% of the population. Religion is Christianity and Islamic. Official language is English. Economy is in shambles due to long stretched out civil war. Diamond industry is a flourishing business here.
Highest elevation is Mount Nimba. Chief rivers are Cavally, Cess, Saint John, and Saint Paul. Monrovia on Cape Mesurado is the capital of this nation. Climate is equatorial with ample monsoon rainfall.
The coastal strip is marshy; the central region is grassland and forest while the north is hilly savannas. Forest covers almost one-half of the territory. The animal life is very rich, and includes the antelope, leopard, water buffalo, elephant, hippopotamus and various monkeys. Fishing as an occupation is very important.

The natural beauty abounds the nation. There are numerous water bodies such as lakes namely Lake Piso in Robertspot, rivers amidst jungles. The land is also nick named as birders paradise, as very well- known rare breeds of aviary have made the forest their habitat. Sapo Park is the most popular site in the jungle, others being Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, and Santa Rose National Park.

There is long stretch of un-crowded sandy beaches like the Silver beach and winding mountains in a haze of clouds. In the coastal area, tourists like to laze around in Buchanan, Greenville, Harper, and Monrovia a moderately big city with river and sea in its region. All water sports are available for the enjoyment of the visitors. Hang gliding, fishing and bird watching activities are specifically arranged for the tourists.

The culture of the place is known through Liberian National Museum, and the Kendeja Cultural Centre close to Monrovia. Other attractions of the place are the Providence Islands, and Firestone Rubber Plantation. However, as of now travel is curtailed through regulations.
