Climate. The climate of Monteverde is characterized as being humid and cloudy. It is sometimes misty as well. The temperature doesn’t fluctuate widely. It generally ranges from 15 degrees to 22 degrees Celsius (59 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit).

Demographics. The mos widely spoken language in the region is Spanish. However, if you speak English but no Spanish, you can still expect to get around fairly easily, as most Costa Ricans speak English as well as Spanish.

Economy and tourism. More people in Monteverde are engaged in agriculture than anything else. There has been a gradual shift in the agricultural practices in the region due to factors such as overgrazing. However, the people of the region have been fairly successful in agriculture and during the mid 1990s, coffee beans produced in Monteverde and its surrounding regions was the costliest in the world. Dairy has been another source of income for the economy.


In the mid 1990s, 210 families supplied milk to the dairy industry and had a turnover of $ 5.2 million USD. Tourism is also an important industry in the region. Nearly 250,000 tourists from all over the world visit this region every year. That’s not a small number by any stretch of the imagination. The tourism infrastructure in this region are very good, and as a result, you will have a very pleasant stay in Monteverde indeed. There are a number of hotels, taxis, tourist guides etc.

Places to visit. The Reserva Biologica Bosque Nuboso Monteverde has a number of rain forests and cloud forests. This reserve also has the largest number of orchids in the world. Apart from these there are many insect museums and butterfly gardens.
