Napa Valley situated in California is considered widely as one of the top American Viticulture Areas. The wines of Napa Valley are famous from almost 19th Century. Talking about the climate of Napa Valley there exists several microclimates within the area due to various weather and geographical changes. The open southern end of the valley floor is cooler during the growing season due to the proximity of San Pablo Bay while the sheltered, closed northern end is often much warmer.

The eastern side of the valley tends to be more arid because winter storms tend to drop much more precipitation on the western mountains and hills. The combination of Mediterranean climate, geography and geology of the valley are the factors of growing the finest and best wineries in the world. There were 140 wineries in Napa Valley by the end of 19th century.

From these original wineries there still exists some of them which includes Charles Krug Winery, Shramsburg, Chateau Montelena and Beringer. The others were damaged due to the prohibition laid in the country in 1920 and the further damage was an infestation of the phylloxera root louse which almost killed many of the vines through the valley. These also affected in growing new wineries for years. The wineries were back after the Second World War as the wine industry started glooming.

The first large scale winery started to grow in 1965 when a Napa Valley icon broke away his family’s estate. After this establishment the number of wineries started growing immensely making the valley and place the most reputed.

Napa Valley’s wineries produce some of the best wines throughout the world which includes Araujo, Bryant Family, Chimney Rock Winery, Colgin Cellars, Dalla Valle Maya, Diamond Creek, Dominus Estate, Duckhorn Vineyards, Dunn Howell Mountain, Grace Family, Harlan Estate, Husic, Kistler, Jericho Canyon Vineyards, Marcassin, Rutherford Hill Winery, Screaming Eagle, Sequoia Grove, Shafer Hillside Select, Sine Qua Non, Spencer-Roloson Winery and Vineyard.
